CLIENT'S CONTEXT

An interconnected technology ecosystem supporting capital markets operations

Renaissance Securities is an investment firm operating across international capital markets, providing securities trading, brokerage, and related investment services.

Its operations rely on an interconnected ecosystem of vendor trading platforms, custom-built applications, and data warehouses. Batch and near-real-time pipelines move data between these systems to support trade processing, reconciliation, and regulatory reporting.

In this environment, the completeness, accuracy, and timely delivery of data are essential. An incomplete overnight batch, delayed upstream data, or inconsistent processing logic can affect trading visibility, reporting accuracy, and the firm’s ability to meet regulatory obligations.

STARTING POINT

The firm retained its systems but lost much of the knowledge behind them

Following a corporate demerger, the firm retained its technology infrastructure but lost a significant portion of the team responsible for developing and maintaining it.

While business-critical systems remained operational, much of the knowledge required to manage them was fragmented or undocumented. Dependencies between platforms were not always clear, processing logic was difficult to trace, and recurring data inconsistencies complicated incident investigation.

The firm needed to maintain daily operations while rebuilding the engineering expertise required to manage its existing software ecosystem. With limited visibility into system behavior and dependencies, even routine changes could require extensive investigation.

EffectiveSoft was brought in to provide immediate engineering support while progressively rebuilding an understanding of the firm’s systems and addressing the underlying causes of operational issues.

SOLUTION

Reconstructing system knowledge while improving daily operations

EffectiveSoft established a dedicated engineering team to support the firm’s production environment, with coverage aligned to market hours and critical processing cycles.

Rather than separating operational support from system analysis, our engineers combined the two. Each investigation helped uncover dependencies, document existing logic, and identify opportunities to make the environment more reliable and easier to maintain.

Reconstructing data flows and system dependencies

Our engineers traced data flows across trading platforms, custom applications, and reporting systems to understand how information moved through the firm’s technology environment.

The team investigated batch workflows, interfaces, configuration layers, and data transformations, identifying previously undocumented processing rules and dependencies between upstream and downstream systems.

This work gradually turned fragmented system knowledge into structured technical documentation. It also provided the engineering team with the context needed to investigate recurring issues, assess the impact of changes, and identify weaknesses in existing processes.

Addressing the causes of recurring issues

With a clearer understanding of the systems, EffectiveSoft moved beyond resolving individual incidents to addressing the underlying problems affecting data consistency and operational reliability.

Our engineers investigated discrepancies between transactional and reporting systems, corrected data processing logic, and resolved synchronization issues between interconnected platforms.

We also redesigned pre-market validation routines to verify that overnight batch processing had completed successfully, required datasets had reached their destinations, and critical system outputs were consistent before the trading day began.

Targeted monitoring and logging across key scripts, interfaces, and data workflows improved visibility into system behavior, making failures easier to detect, investigate, and resolve.

Extending engineering ownership beyond daily support

As the engagement progressed, EffectiveSoft developed a deeper understanding of the firm’s technology landscape and the operational requirements behind it.

This allowed our team to take on a broader range of engineering tasks, from investigating complex incidents and modifying existing processing logic to implementing structural improvements and developing new functionality where required.

The work is no longer limited to responding to individual support requests. EffectiveSoft combines ongoing operational responsibilities with improvements to the existing software environment, helping the firm address current issues while reducing the likelihood of recurring problems.

BUSINESS IMPACT

Greater control over critical systems, backed by a deeper understanding of how they work

Over two years of collaboration, EffectiveSoft has helped the firm maintain stable operations across its critical financial platforms, resolve reporting and data synchronization issues, and improve the reliability of data delivery.

With previously undocumented system knowledge now accessible to the engineering team, the firm can address complex issues more effectively and implement improvements with a clearer understanding of its technology environment.

WHAT’S NEXT

An engineering partnership that evolves

EffectiveSoft continues to support and enhance the firm’s financial platforms, combining day-to-day operational responsibilities with ongoing engineering improvements. As business and regulatory requirements evolve, our team refines existing workflows, expands system knowledge, and implements changes that support the bank’s long-term technology needs.
