From the first release to AI-assisted medical coding
Since 2006, EffectiveSoft has partnered with TruCode (now part of TruBridge) to develop and continuously enhance its medical coding software. What began as a desktop application has evolved into a connected platform spanning desktop, cloud, and web environments, with AI-enabled capabilities.

THE PRODUCT FOUNDATION
From concept to commercial product
The partnership began with a proof of concept for a drug search application in 2006. EffectiveSoft's proposed architecture won a competitive selection, leading to the development of TruCode's core desktop medical coding product and its first commercial release in 2007.
Medical coding required a more efficient and reliable approach. Coding errors could affect reimbursement, lead to denied claims, and create compliance risks. The goal was to give medical coders a faster, more consistent way to assign and validate codes.
EffectiveSoft developed the desktop application from the ground up, designing its interface, implementing core business logic, and integrating the calculation components needed to support medical coding and reimbursement workflows.
CLOUD AND WEB TRANSFORMATION
Making medical coding accessible across healthcare systems
TruBridge Encoder Essentials brought core medical coding capabilities into a HIPAA-compliant cloud environment on Microsoft Azure. Its embeddable components allow healthcare organizations to integrate coding functionality into existing medical software, including EHR systems.
EffectiveSoft also developed a web-based version of the desktop encoder, modernizing the application architecture, redesigning the user interface, and introducing new functionality and streamlined workflows.
Together, these developments expanded access to TruBridge's medical coding capabilities while supporting a more consistent experience across product versions.
AI PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Bringing AI assistance into medical coding workflows
EffectiveSoft developed AI-powered capabilities to support two key areas of medical coding: assisting coders in their daily work and helping internal teams maintain coding content.
The team built a retrieval-augmented AI assistant that gives medical coders access to relevant coding references, contextual explanations, and supporting information directly within their workflow, without switching between systems.
For the coding content team, EffectiveSoft developed AI-powered checks to analyze relationships between codes, identify potential inconsistencies, and suggest updates as coding requirements change. Specialists review AI-generated recommendations before publication.
The AI functionality was implemented using Azure OpenAI, supporting the integration of AI capabilities within TruBridge's existing technology environment.
